Novak Djokovic Vs. Florian Mayer
Yes, it looks like Djokovic was blessed with the way the draw unfolded, however Djokovic will play every match with the intensity that he is noted for. Mayer is no stranger to the tour and he should take this as an opportunity of drawing the #1 seed. His chances of winning increase if he goes for broke. He must get out of his comfort zone and take advantage of any defensive balls.
Nick’s Pick- This match goes to Djokovic in 4 sets
Kei Nishikori vs Matthew Ebden
Ebden has an excellent first serve and prefers to serve and volley. This is where he is dangerous, especially in the first round. He hits his backhand flat with some spin on the forehand. He moves well like Kei.
Kei is a shot-maker and an excellent counter-puncher. Ebden must be very careful when he comes in against Kei. He returns serve very well. Kei should give him no indication that he can win this match.
Nick’s Pick- With Kei’s excellent movement on grass and improved serve, this match will go to Kei in 4 sets.
Lleyton Hewitt vs Stanislas Wawrinka
Hewitt is a veteran of foreign wars. He is very comfortable on grass and had an excellent warm-up at Queen’s Club. He plays excellent defensive tennis.
Wawrinka’s game is based on very offensive serves, with variation. One of the best one-handed backhands on the tour. He is very aggressive with his forehand, but he gets anxious and begins making unforced errors. Wawrinka has serves at 140 mph.
Nick’s Pick- This match favors Hewitt the longer the match goes on. Wawrinka in 3 sets, could go either way in 4, or Hewitt in 5.
Andy Murray Vs. Benjamin Becker
Murray his improved his second serve, much more confident in saving break points against him. He has gained confidence in all areas of the court, he can play the total game. I am very impressed with him coming forward a lot more, he has a very sound volley.
Becker is a dangerous player. He comes into the tournament ranked #105 because he is a very erratic player.
Nick’s Pick- I pick Murray to win this in 4 sets, but could be 3
